Joseph Smith and other early Latter-day Saint leaders spoke of a restoration of pre-Mosaic ordinances as part of the “Restoration of All Things” that would occur in the Last Dispensation. Early leaders spoke of animal sacrifice being an ordinance to be restored in the last days. Some statements also indicate that early church leaders believed circumcision was also an ordinance to eventually be restored.

The previous issue of One Eternal Round addressed the theology of these questions. It engaged in a study of both scriptures that prophesy of these ordinances being restored, as well as scriptures that appear to contradict and be against these ordinances being practiced after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This issue of One Eternal Round sets out to document the historical statements of LDS leaders on the restoration of ancient Israelite ordinances. It will also explore the reality that James Strang and his followers actually performed animal sacrifices on a widespread basis. Additionally an appendix is included on the subject of Blood Atonement, as early Latter-day Saint leaders taught that not only could animals be sacrificed, but controversially taught that the death of individuals was required by God for some serious sins.
